History & Evolution

Established in 1946 as the College of Engineering, Vizagapatnam, the institution has grown into a premier engineering college. Spread across a 100-acre (110 ha) lush green campus, it is situated in the vibrant port city of Kakinada on the east coast of India.

Kakinada, formerly known as Cocanada, is one of the largest cities and the administrative headquarters of the East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The city has a rich political and cultural heritage that continues to shape the academic environment of the college.

On October 2, 1972, the college became a part of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) along with other sister institutions under the Director of Technical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Previously affiliated with Andhra University, the college attained independent university status in 2003.
