The University of Kalyani was established on 1st November 1960 under the Kalyani University Act, 1960 in the state of West Bengal. It is a State University, and its functioning is governed by the Kalyani University Act, 1981 (amended up to 2001) as per the regulations set by the Government of West Bengal.
The university operates under a structured legal framework, including Statements, Orders, Regulations, and Rules. It was previously regulated by The Kalyani University (Temporary Suppression) Act, 1978, which repealed the Kalyani University Act, 1960.
